An Uphill Struggle

Hi there!

Wow, it’s Friday. I don’t even know where the week’s gone! As you might have gathered by the title of this post, my week’s just not quite gone to plan! I don’t know why, I really don’t have an excuse, I’ve had so much to do aside from crafty stuff, like finally getting all the Scotland photos onto my laptop (now just need to organise them!) and still putting all my childhood photos into albums, which is now over the half way point! Then of course the usual housework, laundry etc etc… and as much as that’s done, I don’t like that I haven’t really got things as finished as I would like.

That isn’t to say I haven’t done anything, a lot of the bits for my Scotland holiday mini book are organised and together, I’ve done a little bit of stitching and it probably won’t take all that long for me to get it finished, and I have some bits out to make some cards… But this is it. Planning is good though, I should have lots to share next week, so that’s something! I just feel it’s been a bit behind. I guess these things happen, I’ve noticed a few bloggers I follow are having a break at the moment, so I guess there’s something about this time of year (and trust me, it’s not the weather, it’s still raining here!)

I think part of me is procrastinating, as much as I love Christmas, there’s something about starting all the related crafty bits in September, though it’s an excuse to get into the spirit of things early! I’m sure I’ll get into it!

So, my apologies for quite a dull week, I’ll get my backside in gear after the weekend!

Hope you have a great Friday whatever you’re up to, and have a lovely weekend!

Kreativ Blogger Award

Hi there!

I have kind of an extended weekend today and tomorrow, as OH has a couple of days off work. So my morning routine is a little bit out, as I’ve been making the most of spending more time with him than usual! We had a lovely day out yesterday, and then I got spoilt and taken out to dinner too!

Talking of being spoilt, back on the 29th of June, Drama Queen Seams nominated me for the Kreativ Blogger Award! Thank you so much :)

Like most of these things they come with some tasks:

  1. Thank and link back to the person who nominated me.
  2. Answer the 7 questions.
  3. Share 7 random facts/thoughts about myself.
  4. Nominate 7 worthy blogs for the Kreativ Blogger Award.

Ok, so let’s get started with these 7 questions…

  1. What’s your favorite song?  ~ I like so many songs, so this is a bit of a tough one, but one song that always brings a smile to my face is Who’s Got a Match by Biffy Clyro.
  2. What’s your favorite dessert? ~ I love sweet things! I can’t pick a favourite, though last night I had Sticky Toffee Pancakes, which were amazing, (2 pancakes, toffee sauce, vanilla ice cream and honeycomb chocolate) no wrong there!
  3. What do you do when your upset? ~ I try not to get upset now, but I generally spend a bit of time on my own, watch a film I like, or listen to some music I like, write, it depends!
  4. Favorite pet? ~ I’ve had loads of pets, but currently I have just the one, Sid the cat, so I’m gonna go with him!
  5. Do you prefer black or white? ~ Black, though I like white, black is often more practical.
  6. Biggest fear? ~ Being utterly alone.
  7. What is your attitude mostly like? ~ I like to think I’m quite relaxed, I used to be quite tense and angry, and one day I decided to just let it go. I do get quite hyper and loud at times though!
Now 7 random things about me~
  1. I’m the most indecisive person I know… or am I?
  2. I love Disney, and sort-of collect Snow White stuff.
  3. I pretty-much only drink Tea
  4. I don’t cook… well I very rarely cook.
  5. I can’t stand emptying the dishwasher
  6. I love going food shopping
  7. OH and I own over 500 DVDs and watch films most nights.

I’m nominating (some blogs new to me, some familiar faces):

Brightening Up

Hi there!

I spent the vast majority of yesterday stitching in the white areas of all 4 camper vans yesterday, and plan to finish them today, but photographing white thread is a near impossibility on such a grey morning! (So hopefully there will be a completed project tomorrow)!

Instead I thought I’d share my work on brightening up our lounge here at home. I don’t know if I have said before that OH and I live at his mum’s house, though we have two rooms upstairs that we use as our bedroom and our living room. We both have quite eclectic tastes so there are all sorts of ornaments and pictures around, which you’d think would brighten things up quite a lot, but lately I’ve been trying to add some more colour whilst spending as little as possible!

This is quite a new thing, so not much has been done, though I have a little wish list. So far we’ve repurposed some coloured tile samples as coasters:

All I did with these was add some foam pads to the bottom so they don’t damage the table. There are four of them actually, for some reason I only took a pic of these three! The other one is this colour for those curious souls who need to know! I rescued these from a skip (now you don’t have to, but it’s always polite to ask if you’re taking anything from a skip).

I just thought they were cool, and too nice to throw away… I actually picked them up, and then had to think what I could use them for, but we did need new coasters, the ones we had before were from when I was at uni three years ago, and were getting a bit old!

Anyway, yesterday I started on something I’ve wanted to do for ages. We had a cork notice board laying around for a while, so using some sticky pads, I attached it to the side of the cupboard, but it was so drab. So I got out some paper, and some odds and ends from my stash and came up with this:

I don’t consider this finished, but it’s already more interesting to look at. I’m thinking we’ll gather things here and there, and they can go on it, from photos to odds and ends, I’d say tickets stubs and stuff, but I scrapbook those!

Aside from these I also have a large orange tile, which I haven’t taken a photo of, which I am using to rest a plant pot on at the moment.

The next thing I want to look out for is a couple of bright coloured plant pots, and then I may have to get started on re-covering the cushions on my rocking chair, which I have decided I want to do in a bright royal blue fabric… but that’s as far as I’ve got on planning that! I’m still waiting for some nice weather to get outside and sand my chair down to re-varnish it!

Anyone else got any ideas?

Have a great day!

A Little Bit of Sunshine

Hi there!

I was prepared to do a crafty post this morning, but my mind was changed when I received a message from fellow blogger SzaboInSlowMo…

Since Monday’s party (see yesterday’s post) which as you can see was a glorious typical summer day (not surprising for June even by UK standards) it has been raining! It is awful out there at the moment, which lucky for me I don’t have to go out anywhere so doesn’t affect me too much, though I’d still prefer to see some sun when I look out the window!

What am I getting at? Well, going back to this morning, I opened my email to find SzaboInSlowMo has nominated me for The Sunshine Blogger Award! And since it’s a very grey day here, and only set to get worse throughout, I could most certainly use a little sunshine right now!

Firstly I’d like to say a HUGE thank you to SzaboInSlowMo, and ask you to check out her blog She Can’t Be Serious, which I adore (and I’m not just saying that). No matter what the post I seem to end up laughing or relating to something she’s written!

The Sunshine Blogger rules:

  1. Include the award logo in a post or somewhere on your blog.
  2. Answer 10 questions about yourself
  3. Nominate 10 to 12 other fabulous bloggers.
  4. Link your nominees to the post and comment on their blog, letting them know about the award.
  5. Share the love and link the person who nominated you

First, the questions/answers:

There are no set questions for this award, so because I can’t think of what to ask myself… way back at the beginning of April I tagged someone in a Tag You’re It post, and they tagged me back. Because I had already done a similar post, I never answered those questions, until now….

  1. How did we meet? A tough one I suppose, considering I am now answering at random, though all the blogs I follow, I have found through blogging, either stumbling across a blog by chance, or through other bloggers or comments!
  2. What is your favourite thing to do when you have time for you? Stitching and scrapbooking comes to mind, other than that I like to sit and watch films, read and occasionally bake!
  3. What is your favourite memory from your childhood? I have some really good memories, though to choose a favourite? I don’t really know, I used to go to London every year with my Dad, and just do something random and unplanned, those were great days!
  4. If you could meet one famous person who would it be? And why? I honestly don’t know. My favourite film director is Tim Burton and I guess meeting him could be a pretty interesting experience.
  5. Were you named after anyone? Why? I was named after a song…Because my parents liked it.
  6. Share a memory of something you got up to in your 20′s…. I’m still in my 20′s! Erm, I’ve “got up to” a fair bit already, though I think my 20′s is definitely a calming down period of my life. Gone are the days of clubbing and excessive drinking! I guess the most memorable thing I’ve done is moving over 200 miles away from my home town!
  7. What is your favourite song? Why? I don’t know if I have one. I love music, but what I listen to really depends on my mood. I kind of feel like I should say something epic, but honestly, I don’t know!
  8. Are you married? Single? Kids? No kids? Pets? I am, not married, not single either, don’t have kids, and the proud “mummy” to Sid, the cutest cat in the universe!
  9. What was the last book you read? I’ve been reading all the Sherlock Holmes stories on my IPod, I’m up to “The Return” now! A collection I always meant to read and never got round to!
  10. How many different places have you lived at in your life? “Houses” – 18 “Towns” – 4

“Tag”, You’re “It”

Hi there,

Back at the end of March, I was initiated into the game of bloggers “Tag” or “It” as I remember it (!) by shecantbeserious at first I thought it would be a lot easier, having grown up with those awful emails filled with hundreds of questions all about me, which went back and forth between friends. Now though I did find I had to take a little time, to think through both my answers and my questions.

Question mark

Now I know, some people won’t want to do this, and that’s fine, also, if you happen to have arrived at this post and decide you want to have a go, please do! Don’t feel obliged to do anything – though of course check out the tagged blogs, because they’re great!

So here are the rules:

  1. Post the rules.
  2. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post.
  3. Create 11 new questions to ask the people you’ve tagged.
  4. Tag 11 people and link them to your post.
  5. Let them know you’ve tagged them!

1. What is the last thing that made you laugh out loud?

Loads of things, I find I laugh a lot, which can’t be a bad thing!

2. Which sitcom family, new or old, most resembles YOUR family?

I don’t think there’s ever been a sitcom that resembles my family – I think that’s a good thing!

3.  Do you like your first name?  You don’t have to tell what it is–just WHY you like or don’t like it.  And if you don’t like it, what do you wish you had been named?

I don’t particularly like my first name (Kayleigh)  because I don’t like the song, it’s kind of lame to be named after “someone” who has had their heart broken and warrants a musical apology! I don’t know what I’d prefer my name to be, but I’ve shortened my name for years and go by Kay, and I like it.

4.  What’s the last stupid thing you did?

I can’t actually think of anything – I’m sure there are a few things but I’m just oblivious to them!

5. You can have only one of these:  Looks, Fame, or Fortune.  Which do you choose and why?

I used to want to be an actor, or a singer, and I wouldn’t mind fame.

Fortune isn’t something I’d turn down either! I’m happy with the way I look though!

To have though, I think Fame, preferably based on talent!

6. Name a musical artist that you like, but might cause people to make fun of you if they know that you like them.

I don’t have any embarrassing confessions to make I’m afraid! I like the odd song that’s a bit cringy! I have got Busted on my ipod! Though I think Run With Us by Lisa Lougheed is probably one that might cause a few giggles, more because it’s the theme song to kids tv show The Raccoons!

7. What is something you do that drives your significant other crazy?  If you have no significant other, substitute a parent or friend.

He won’t tell me, though I did ask, so I’m going to have to go with the fact I am not the tidiest person in the world, and he is, so it probably is a bit annoying at least when I leave craft stuff everywhere!

8. Name a celebrity that you just wish would go away.

Loads haha. I think pointless celebrities should all go away, people like Paris Hilton, who are just famous because of who they are… it’s just annoying!

9. What adjective would people. who know you most likely use to describe you?  Just one word.

Probably “creative” (might seem a bit obvious).

10. What’s your favorite smell?

I could round it all into “Breakfast” which is pretty funny because I rarely eat breakfast, but I love the smell of toast, cooking bacon and coffee (I also don’t drink coffee!)

11. Make up your question. —-> Why did you start your blog?

This is a question I’m going to ask in a moment, so it seemed only fair to answer it myself!

I started my blog, back in September, for a few reasons. I enjoy crafts, and wanted a way to share that with other people. I liked the idea of building up a small community of like minded people in a little space of the internet which I can call ‘mine’ and finally, I wanted some way of looking back on things I have done, to see how my style changes over time, for example having only started scrapbooking a year ago, I thought it would be interesting to see how I progress over time. There are loads more reasons, but those are the main three.

And now, here are my questions for you!

  1. Why did you start your blog?
  2. When you were a child, what did you want to be “when you grow up”?
  3. Who would play you, in the movie of your life?
  4. What acronym do you use too often (eg: lol, imho…)?
  5. Where would you love to travel?
  6. How has your life changed, from what you said, or expected when you were younger?
  7. Do you prefer sweet or savoury snacks?
  8. If we were going to watch a film, and you had to pick one, what would you choose?
  9. What are people often surprised to find out about you?
  10. What is your favourite time of year?
  11. Make up your own question.
And now for the 11 lucky bloggers who’ve been tagged.  I can’t wait to see the answers the authors of these blogs come up with:
Have a great day!
