Stitching Progress Jan 2013

Hi there

It’s Monday again, and as I kind of predicted I haven’t done all that much in the last week, though I do have some stitching progress to share…

As I posted last week, I am working on a kit I got for Christmas, which I’ll go into a little bit now I caught up with everything! I’ve wanted a Gorjuss kit for a while now, and when it came to present ideas it was something I was hoping for, and my sister kindly got me one.

So the stitching in progress is the Bothy Threads kit, of Gorjuss-Ruby. gorjuss-logo

Firstly it is a beautiful kit, with 2 pattern pages (cross-stitching and the details) a small booklet of instructions, 3 needles, beads and ribbons for the end, threads all pre-sorted, and the aida. I was totally impressed with it when I opened it and had a look. I’d never had a kit from them before so didn’t know what to expect (and we’ve all seen some bad kits). At this point I’ve had NO problems, and am enjoying working on it.

So there you go, a little recommendation for you if you’ve been curious!

So without further ado here’s where I am with it all: SAM_1545

I like where it’s going so far, the coverage close up isn’t excellent, but it’s by far not the worst I’ve seen. I’m looking forward to working on it still as well, which considering it’s a larger kit for me is something I wasn’t sure would happen!

Until next time, I hope you all have a wonderful week! I’ll be posting Tuesday rather than Monday next week as I’m going away for the weekend!

Happy Crafting!!

Square 20 Complete

Hi there!

Back to the christmas crafting, and now we have just over 6 weeks to go! Less than that if the Advent Calendar makes it! And it IS getting there I promise! Though I am still a little nervous about getting on that sewing machine, and it is looming ever closer!

Here we have Square 20, and though simple, I adore it! This was originally a silhouette pattern, so I accented the antlers and hooves of the reindeer in gold, though left colour to a minimum. I love how it turned out!

I have decided to simply get 24 squares done at this point, the 25th was simply “Merry Christmas” stitched for the top of the calendar anyway, and I feel that it is not necessary now I have reached this point. SO this means we have 4 more squares to go, and then it’ll be numbering, pocket making, and construction time! With this in mind, it is entirely possible that it will  be finished in time! (Though of course you never can tell!)

I am aiming for as close to December 1st as I can, but in this time I do have to complete a second non-christmas piece, and have a birthday, so no promises! Though I will try, because as much as I’ve enjoyed this project, I can’t wait to have the chance to make something new next year! If you would like to see all the squares so far, do check out the album on the Thisisthecraftyone Facebook Page, and there you will also find other stitchy treats too!

Hope you’re having a great week!

A Break From Festivities… Stitchy Present

Hi there!

So, it has been a while, I’ve been really busy even if I haven’t been posting, honestly!

While I am focussing my attention on christmas crafting, I have had a little chance for a  break, and been working on a present for OH’s sister who’s birthday was on Halloween. So I had a rest from festive squares to stitch this:

I found this really great (and incredibly simple pattern) here: http://crossmenot.blogspot.co.uk/2009/06/cute-cthulhu.html

He’s quite a cute little guy really! I went on to add a little more, and frame him:

It was nice to have the break, and take my mind away from christmas, but now it is completely back to the grindstone! I am determined to get this done, because I don’t want another year of BIG PROJECT, as much as I’ve enjoyed it! Are you working on any festive crafting?

Hope you all had a lovely Halloween, I shall post “Square 20″ on Wednesday now, so until then everyone, have a lovely week whatever you’re up to!

Happy Crafting!

Square 18 Complete

Hi there!

Wednesday is here! Which means blog post (honestly, it does, I’ve just been a bit rubbish lately)! And a BIG PROJECT update!

After a severe lack of motivation, I decided on Monday to sit and stitch, not knowing how well (or not well) it was going to go. I simply wanted to get back into it, and at first, it was slow going, I’d had a slight attempt on Saturday that hadn’t gone well, after drawing the outline of two designs to merge them into one,  I managed to get a small part of the “square” stitched, but soon lost interest. I did think however at least having a plan was something!

Monday felt like it was going to go the same way at first. And then I realised I was quite into it!

I managed to get the square totally finished on Monday evening! So here it is:

And now I have 7 more to go! Which (and I have no idea why) sounds easier than 8, and hopefully that pattern will continue!

I didn’t do any stitching yesterday, but plan to get started on the next piece today! I’m even looking at fabric, and currently dreading re-learning machine stitching to bring it all together in the end! Still, I’ll be pleased when it’s done, which is looking a bit more likely now!

Hope you’re having a great start to October!

Square 17 Complete!

Hi there!

It is finished! Well, the 17th square at least… 8 to go! I really meant to post yesterday but my internet was playing up so today it is!

I haven’t had time to work on anything else in the last week, I’ve been totally busy, but I have a couple of days to myself now so I’m hoping things will get going! I have so much on my to do list right now it’s unreal, but I keep procrastinating when I do get 5 minutes to myself (not a great way to get things off the to do list).

I have however finished square 17! And here it is:

I quite like it, not as much as some of the others, but I tried to make it a little more colourful than some of the other squares. It meant it was a bit fiddlier (I mean check out the metallic berries there) but the overall effect is nice.

I was hoping to look for a traditional angel pattern to stitch next, because EVERY SINGLE ONE I have found is a bit too “cartoony” for my liking, but I was so busy last week I never got a chance to look, now though things settle down for a few days, so I’m hoping to get another square started today! And look for the angel to stitch later on. So by all means if you can find a small traditional looking angel anywhere do leave a comment!

I can’t believe there are only 8 squares to go! It hasn’t really sunk in that it’s that close to the end, I mean that’s still quite a bit of work, and then I STILL  have to get fabric and actually bring it all together, but it makes me realise the progress I’ve made! (Mostly last year I know, but once it was placed aside I’d sort-of forgotten about it) I’m beginning to feel more positive about it being finished but I daren’t speak too soon!

Hope you’re having a good start to the week!

2/3 of Square 17

Hi there!

Wow, I can’t believe it’s Wednesday already… I’ve been working on another “square” this week for the BIG Project, and of course the inevitable happened, I haven’t finished it (now do you see why I’ve given myself a fair bit of time this year) in my defense, it is one of the more detailed patterns, if you look back over other BIG Project posts from last year, you’ll notice some are a lot bigger and more detailed than others, hopefully it’ll work when it’s finished, to add a bit of dimension to the finished advent calendar.

If you’ve been following for a while you’ll also know I really don’t like working with metallic threads (which isn’t to say I don’t do it fairly often) and I have managed to get all the metallic stitching finished for this one, so it’s simple from here!

So here it is: I do really like this piece, I don’t even mind it taking as long as it has, because it’s so pretty to look at already!

Because patterns for this whole project have come from various locations I’m not saying where they’re from! Because it’s work to find them, most (like this one) come from many back issues of Cross Stitcher but if you’d like to know I can look them out for you, so don’t hesitate to comment/email/Facebook me for information, or just a hello!

So, this should be finished today and I’ll have a new one for you on Monday!

I hope you’re having a great week, whatever you’re up to! Do feel free to come and say hi on the Facebook Page if you’re procrastinating at all!

Happy Crafting!

September Crafting

Hi there!

So, it is now September, and The BIG Project is out of storage, ready to be picked up again, hopefully to be completed this year!

For a bit of a catch up I’d recommend at least checking out THIS POST if you haven’t already, as this is where I’m picking up from. The BIG Project is an advent calendar I started last year, and I’m hoping I’ll get it finished and be able to add it to the decorations I made last year. My plan for today isn’t very exciting, as I need to iron all the completed squares, and then dig out all the patterns from various places, to decide where I want to go next.

Once all the squares are finished, (I have 10 to do now) it’s to the sewing machine with me (something that makes me a little nervous, it’s been a while). To make pockets and of course bring it all together. To do this I still need to find a backing I like (something I really struggled with last year).

Are you planning on doing anything crafty for christmas? Have you already started?

For me this does however mean a bit of a change here on the blog, because I have no more cards to make, unless something comes up in the meantime, other than my christmas cards, which I am going to sort out next month. So things will quiet down a little for a while, as I plan on getting squares finished. On the other hand, I do still have a couple of projects I want to work on between christmas stuff, but I won’t be posting daily on my progress, more likely a couple of times a week, as things will otherwise get a little monotonous. Other than squares, I need to work on my Scotland Mini Book, at least one small project, and I am in talks about completing a quite large cross-stitched something for a friend of OH’s Grandma. So what with all the stitching, it’s not going to be as interesting if I post every day with what I’m doing! At the moment I am planning on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for posting, though of course there is no certainty!

I do have one thing to share with you all, you will be happy to hear, Surfer Ted has finally been finished, and is also awaiting the iron, and then will be framed, so here he is: I am really pleased with how he’s turned out, though I must admit, I got a bit bored of it, more because of the changes in colour, which weren’t big enough to make it feel interesting, but more small enough to be annoying! Looks good though, and once he’s ironed he’ll be framed and put away until he is given as a gift at the end of November.

Hope you had a great weekend!
